Patrick De Vos (1963) has both a Licentiate (MA) in Political Science and a Ph.D. in Political and Social Sciences from Belgium's Ghent University (UG). He also studied at the universities of Essex (UK) and Roskilde (Denmark). Between 1997 and 2003 he was a member of the cross-disciplinary research group World-System Analysis (UG). From 1999 until 2003 Patrick De Vos held a research scholarship at the Department of Political Science at Ghent University, where he obtained his Ph.D. in 2003. His doctoral research project dealt with the ideological and programmatic transformation of European social democratic politics, eventually resulting in the adoption of a new social-liberal synthesis in the late nineties.

As an independent researcher and author he lives and works in Brussels and Berlin. He has published about industrial relations, right-wing populism, social democracy and the welfare state, feminism and political identity, language and politics, globalisation, German politics and contemporary India.

Having a background in mainstream political science, with an emphasis on issues related to work, unemployment, inequality and welfare, as well as on system analysis, Patrick De Vos gradually broadened and relocated his focus to a more qualitative, discourse-theoretical approach of issues such as contemporary social democracy, globalisation, neoliberalism and right-wing populism. His main interests today are language and politics, as well as social and political theory in general. Since 2004 Patrick De Vos works as an independent researcher and author.

Patrick De Vos (1963) promoveerde als Licentiaat in de Politieke Wetenschappen en als Doctor in de Politieke en Sociale Wetenschappen aan de Universiteit Gent (UG). Hij studeerde ook aan de universiteiten van Essex (UK) en Roskilde (Denemarken). Van 1997 tot 2003 was hij lid van de interdisciplinaire Onderzoeksgroep Wereldsysteem-analyse (UG). Tussen 1999 en 2003 was hij als vorser verbonden aan de Vakgroep Politieke Wetenschappen (UG), waar hij in 2003 zijn doctoraat met succes verdedigde. In zijn dissertatie behandelde hij de ideologische en programmatorische transformatie van de Europese sociaal-democratie in de context van de globalisering, zoals die eind jaren '90 resulteerde in de adoptie van een nieuwe sociaal-liberale synthese.

Als onafhankelijk onderzoeker en auteur woont en werkt hij in Brussel en Berlijn. Hij publiceerde onder meer over arbeidsverhoudingen, rechts-extremisme, sociaal-democratie en de welvaartsstaat, feminisme, taal en politiek, globalisering, de Duitse politiek en het hedendaagse India.

Als politicoloog legde Patrick De Vos zich aanvankelijk toe op de studie van de welvaartsstaat, arbeid, werkloosheid en sociale ongelijkheid, vanuit een politiek-economische invalshoek. Die focus is geleidelijk verschoven naar een meer kwalitatieve, discoursanalytische benadering van thema's als globalisering, sociaal-democratie, neoliberalisme en rechts-populisme. Sindsdien gaat zijn belangstelling vooral uit naar de relatie tussen taal en politiek, en naar politieke en sociale theorie in het algemeen. Sinds 2004 werkt Patrick De Vos als onafhankelijk onderzoeker en auteur.
